About Margalla School on Energy & Climate

The power sector of Pakistan has expanded exponentially in the past 30 years with a two-fold increase in the past 15 years. This expansion has posed new challenges ranging from managing the existing generation capacity to planning for future demand with an imperative for sustainable and clean electricity within the grid. At the same time, the global push to combat climate change and accelerate the energy transition has brought new impetus and stakeholders to the table. Under these circumstances, there arises an urgent need to enhance the capacity of future energy leaders, capable of understanding the challenges and nuances faced by Pakistan’s power sector while prioritizing sustainable, environmentally friendly energy transitions. The Margalla School on Energy and Climate, an initiative by Renewables First (RF) intends to bridge this gap by building the capacity of young and early career professionals and equipping them with the knowledge and vision essential for driving Pakistan’s energy transformation.

Our curriculum combines crucial subjects for aspiring energy specialists, blending technical skills, nuanced policy insights, and an understanding of Pakistan’s socio-economic landscape. This holistic approach aims to develop well-rounded professionals, who are capable of thinking beyond technical solutions by linking policy, community mobilization, and other aspects of climate change to their work. By enhancing their skills, we will be creating a network of professionals who will drive Pakistan’s energy transition towards a sustainable future.
